Pokémon Go maker Niantic donated $870,000 to pandemic relief and other causes in 2020

Pokémon Go maker Niantic said its social impact for 2020 includes donations of $ 170,000 to pandemic relief and $ 700,000 to education, sustainability and health.

The global pandemic forced Niantic to hold community events and personal gatherings. However, they managed to find ways to support community engagement through online events. It formed its commitment to Black Lives Matter, the Local Business Recovery Initiative, and joined a corporate coalition for marriage equality in Japan and the power of virtual learning. Niantic employees have contributed directly to 136 causes, and the company has helped more than 1,000 small businesses. The company also helped dozens of organizations including SixSquare, 9 Dots, Keep Giving Detroit, and others through its Black Lives Matter program.

Niantic said it is actively seeking partners around the world interested in finding ways to make a positive impact through storytelling, community engagement, and augmented reality. In the first 10 months of 2020 alone, Pokémon Go achieved $ 1 billion, according to estimates by measurement company Sensor Tower. The game launched in July 2016 and recently had a major update.
