How to Make a Link Tree for Instagram in 5 Easy Steps

If you’ve come here for instructions on how to create a link tree for Instagram, you probably already know that Instagram has fairly restrictive guidelines on how to share links.

The platform doesn’t allow adding links to feed posts, and “swipe up” links in stories are only available for larger accounts. The bio section is the only place all Instagram users can add a link. A link, to be precise.

Link trees allow you to make the most of this valuable property. By creating a link tree for Instagram, you are turning your one bio link into a hub for more links. And with more links, you can direct traffic exactly where you need it – whether it’s in your store, on a login form, on new content, or on an important business update.

Read on for step-by-step instructions on how to create a link tree for Instagram, as well as some inspiring examples of great link trees.

What is an Instagram Link Tree?

An Instagram link tree is a simple landing page that can be accessed through your Instagram bio and that has multiple links in it. These can lead to your website, business, blog – or wherever you want.

Since most users access Instagram link trees from their mobile devices, link tree landing pages should be easy to navigate. Most just have a couple of bold buttons.

Now that you know what a link tree is and why it’s worth it, it’s time to create one!

We’re going to go through the two ways to create an Instagram link tree:

  1. Using Linktr.ee, a dedicated tool for creating Instagram bio links.
  2. Create a custom landing page.

Let’s begin!

How to use Linktr.ee to create an Instagram link tree

Step 1: create a free account

Go to linktr.ee/register and enter your details.

And that’s it! Repeat the process until you have added all of your links.

As you add links, you will see a preview of your link tree on the right side of the dashboard:

Step 3: organize your links

Click the purple lightning bolt to add special links or headings. Headings help you organize your links by subject or purpose.

You can move your links and headings at any time by clicking the icon with the three vertical dots and dragging the element to its new position.

Step 4: Customize the appearance of your link tree

With all of the links in place, it’s time to really make your link tree yours.

Start by going to the Appearance tab in the top menu.

Here you can add an image and a short description to your link tree page. You can also change the subject of your link tree. There are several free options available. Pro users can create their own custom themes.

Step 5: add your link tree to your Instagram bio

You’re done. Now that you’ve finished your custom link tree, it’s time to add it to your Instagram bio. Just copy the url from the top right corner of the dashboard:

Here’s how to make your own Instagram link tree

If you’re looking for more customization options or need access to detailed analysis, you can also create your own link tree. The process is to create a simple landing page that includes all of the links that you want to share with your followers.

Step 1: create a landing page

Create a new page with your content management system – WordPress or your blogging platform. You can also use a dedicated landing page builder like Unbounce.

Remember to add the url of your link tree to your Instagram bio. So keep them short and sweet. Use your Instagram username or words like “Hello,” “About,” or “More Info”.

Step 2: design your page

When designing your page, keep in mind that your followers will access it on mobile devices. Keep it simple and focus on making the links stand out as best you can.

Use a design tool like Canva to create attractive branded buttons for your links. Keep them small to make sure they display correctly on all phone screens. 500 × 100 pixels work great:

Add a photo and a quick welcome message to make the page more engaging.

Step 3: add links with UTM parameters

Once you’ve arranged your buttons on your landing page, it’s time to add the links.

Add UTM parameters to your links for easy performance tracking. This way, you can access click information through your Google Analytics account.

Google’s free campaign URL generator is a great tool for creating UTM links.

Step 4: update your Instagram bio

When you’re done creating your new page, go back to your Instagram account and add the URL to the “Website” section of your profile.

That’s it!
