Everything you need to know before applying to Walmart
If you are interested in Walmart Marketplace but don't know how to begin, this guide is for you! Here are some tips to help you get started! It covers the most important things you'll want to know before you start applying. This updated guide can answer any questions you have before you use it.
What is Walmart Marketplace?
Walmart Marketplace is an online marketplace hosted by Walmart.com that features high-quality selections from professional sellers.
Joining our community can help you build your sales and reach a broader audience as you navigate the ever-evolving landscape of eCommerce. Comscore estimates Walmart Marketplace sellers will connect with 120 million unique visitors a month, allowing them to reach a whole new market of online shoppers. Product awareness and conversions can increase when more people see your products.
As a Walmart Marketplace seller, you can also access Walmart's advertising capabilities. Walmart has an established presence online and offline that makes it difficult for any other retailer to compete. As an Enhanced Returns provider, you can leverage this scale by letting your customers make returns through your website or in person at Walmart stores. Customers will appreciate the seamless experience, and you will be able to earn their repeat business.
How much does it cost to sell on Walmart Marketplace?
With Walmart Marketplace, you'll receive transparent pricing and competitive commissions. You won't pay setup or monthly fees or any hidden charges. Your commissions are based on the number of sales (a referral fee is taken out of each completed purchase).
There is a wide range of commission rates at Walmart, ranging from 6%-to-15 %, depending on the category and total sales price. Our recent changes have lowered fees in select categories, so you may be able to take advantage of even lower prices.
The following categories now have new and lower referral fees:
- Baby, Beauty, Grocery, Health, and Personal Care
- Items selling for $10 or less are subject to an 8% referral fee.
- Referral fees of 15% are applied to things that cost more than $10.
- Electronics Accessories
- You will be charged a 15% referral fee for the portion of the gross sales amount up to $100.00.
- Referral fees of 8% will be applied to the portion of the total sales price above $100.00.
What is the Walmart Marketplace application process?
Navigate to the Walmart Marketplace application page and fill out the form to request to sell. When you have all the necessary information on hand, the application process should take about 10-15 minutes.
The following information must be provided
- Tax ID for US Businesses (SSN not accepted)
- Your US business address or place of physical business must be verified by a W9 or W8, as well as your EIN, from the Department of Treasury.
- Location or address of physical operations
- A business address in the United States
- You plan to integrate your product catalog using bulk uploads, APIs, or a solution provider.
- Product categories, catalog size, and related information (e.g., total SKUs you will initially sell on Walmart.com, UPCs, and used and refurbished products).
How can I get approved to sell on Walmart Marketplace?
Although a few tips can help you with the application process and receive approval, they may not make the process easier. First, make sure you have a proven record of success in marketplaces and eCommerce. It isn't just anybody who can sell on Walmart.com, as Walmart has high standards and requirements. Walmart takes this issue seriously, in addition to the previous requirements; they want to make sure that merchandise offerings and shopping experiences for customers continue to meet Walmart's high standards.
You must ensure your products do not appear in Walmart Marketplace's Prohibited Products Policy. The list includes hazardous materials, alcohol, certain foods, offensive products, etc. If you have even one of these items in your catalog, you will not be allowed to apply to Walmart Marketplace.
If you provide as much information about your business up front, you will save yourself later. It's a good idea to act fast to avoid delays in the review process if you need to communicate back and forth with Walmart Marketplace to fill any gaps in your application.
Register yourself with Walmart Fulfillment Services
A fast and predictable fulfillment network is another requirement for your Walmart Marketplace application to be approved. To make Walmart's products stand out in search results and browse results, they offer seller programs such as TwoDay and ThreeDay.
Please keep in mind that fulfillment services from other marketplaces, such as Fulfillment by Amazon, won't be available. However, all is not lost! You can trust Walmart Fulfillment Services to deliver your products fast and at a low cost.
To be approved, you simply send your inventory to one of Walmart's fulfillment centers once you have been approved. Sellers who cannot ship quickly on their own are encouraged to apply to WFS. Upon receiving your order, Walmart will pick it up, pack it, and send it. Customers who order these items are guaranteed to receive them within two days for free.
Once registered, start uploading your listings.
Before you can start selling on Walmart.com, you must add products to the site. The new Bulk Upload tool makes it easy to upload and update listings quickly (you can upload items individually, but we recommend doing so in Bulk for large assortments).
